Dear ski family!
Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping or Nordic combined: Amateurs and professionals share their enthusiasm for winter sports – no matter which discipline. It is just fun to move on snow!
We as professionals must invest a lot during the year to be able to reach top results in winter. The special thing about the FIS World Cup is that each week, the world’s best athletes come together at one location to find out who is the best of them - in which other sports do you have that after all? And every two, respectively four years, on the occasion of World Championships and Olympic Games we can achieve outstanding results witnessed by a large public. We concretely work towards these extraordinary challenges and goals.
The special thing about Oberstdorf is that you can perform all winter sports disciplines in this renowned winter sports resort and in the Allgäu region – as an amateur and as a professional. Every year, the Organising Committee and the municipality demonstrate their professionalism in organising numerous World Cup events: Vierschanzentournee, Tour de Ski, Ladies’ Ski Jumping World Cup, Alpine World Cup in Ofterschwang, Ski Cross World Cup in Grasgehren and Telemark World Cup at Oberjoch – just as they did during the last World Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005.
I have a special relationship to Oberstdorf: It is where Germany’s only federal base for the ski jumping ladies is located. It is where I live for several months a year. It is where I exercise regularly. And in Oberstdorf, I also prepared for the last World Championships in Falun and the Olympic Games in Sochi. Both times, I could take the gold medal back home with me – which feels great!
Just as the thought of having World Championships at home!
I have already achieved a lot in my career – but the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf is still a worthwhile goal!
Yours Carina Vogt
